I recommend this product and rate it 4.5 stars. These speakers put out meaningfully stereo sound, the hinged speakers allowing for surprisingly sensitive adjustments. These speakers perform remarkably well for their size and price. Brookstone makes a large, flat speaker which is slimmer than this product, but is mono.
These speakers aren't very small for travel speakers, and don't detach from the middle part, they just fold in, but not all the way to make it more compact. this product is a good buy for the price, but you have to put batteries into it and if you forget to turn the speakers off after using, the batteries run down pretty fast. There may be an optional ac adapter that you can purchase, but at extra cost.
I had to get a second one because they lost my luggage one time, but I had that one for many years and it was still in good shape. These speakers go with me whenever I travel on vacation and on business. The foldable design makes it very flexible for packing and storage and the quality of the sound is impressive considering it is cheap, tiny speakers.
Two years of intensive fieldwork (bird song playback), and they are still going strong. For the money, I doubt you could do better for portable speakers that pack a punch -- loudest speakers that I know of for their size.
I had the MP3 volume all the way up and still could barely hear anything. In the car, however, I couldn't even tell they were on. At home they work great and don't need the volume up high at all, but they just don't seem to be strong enough to cover standard car noise.oh well, won't be using them in the car, but will use them to travel, etc for my destination. I ordered the speakers to use in my car with my MP3 player. They are a great size, I love that they fold and they work with my MP3 with no problem.
